MLA Remuneration Review Panel to Look at Compensation Packages.
An independent panel of non-partisan senior government officials was struck today, December 18, to review the remuneration paid to MLAs.
The MLA Remuneration Review Panel will look at compensation packages, including salaries, benefits, pensions, travel and constituency allowances.
Pursuant to Section 45A of the House of Assembly Act, Danielle Barkhouse, Speaker of the House of Assembly, has appointed Tracey Taweel, Executive Deputy Minister to the Premier and Head of the Public Service; Kelliann Dean, Deputy Minister of the Department of Finance and Treasury Board; and Jennifer Glennie, Deputy Minister of the Department of Justice, to the panel.
“I want to thank the three deputies for accepting this appointment. They are highly respected deputy ministers who collectively have over 67 years of service to the Province,” said Speaker Barkhouse. “There is no one who better understands the role, responsibilities and commitment of MLAs to the province. I have the utmost respect for their independence and their unimpeachable non-partisanship.”
Deloitte Canada, an internationally recognized, independent financial firm, has been hired to prepare a report on MLA remuneration. Should the committee determine the report is not valuable or relevant, it is entitled to find alternative support, pursuant to Section 45A(4) of the act.
