No Charges For Police Officer Accused of Sexual Assault During Arrest.

January 15, 2025

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has found no reasonable grounds to lay charges against a Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Officer accused of sexual assault during an arrest.

SiRT received a referral from HRP on June 13, 2024, related to an allegation that an HRP officer committed sexual assault during an arrest the previous day.  An investigation was immediately started, which involved canvassing for witnesses, conducting interviews, and reviewing video footage, police reports and notes, and medical reports.

The detailed summary report can be found here: Recent Publications | SiRT .

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.

NOTE: Anyone who has been impacted by sexual assault should visit their local hospital or contact a Sexual Assault Centre for help and guidance. Call 911 if you are in immediate danger.
