Driver Charged in Death of 21 Year Old Pedestrian.

Update: Pedestrian-Vehicle Collision

A 21-year-old woman has died following a vehicle-pedestrian collision in Halifax on Monday night.

At 5:47 p.m., Halifax Regional Police were called to the intersection of Robie Street and Veterans Memorial Lane. A vehicle was travelling on Jubilee Road when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle. As the driver fled the scene, he struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk and then hit another two parked vehicles before coming to a stop. The pedestrian was transported to hospital and died of her injuries.

The driver, Deepak Sharma, 32, was arrested at the scene. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Operation of a conveyance causing death
  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired causing death
  • Failure to stop after an accident resulting in death
  • Failure to stop after an accident

Halifax Regional Police extend heartfelt condolences to the woman’s family and friends. Police also extend thanks to the witnesses who remained at the scene through the evening.

The investigation is ongoing.
