Youth Arrested in Connection With Two Separate Robberies.
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested a youth in connection with two separate robberies in Westphal.
On January 15, RCMP officers received information about a robbery that had occurred on a public transit bus in Westphal that afternoon. Officers learned that a youth victim was approached by a youth suspect who presented a weapon and demanded the victim’s jacket. The suspect then exited the bus with the jacket. The victim was not injured.
On January 17, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers responded to a second robbery involving the same youth victim on a public transit bus. The suspect again approached the victim and threatened harm if they did not surrender their cell phone. With assistance from a bystander, the victim was able to exit the bus uninjured.
Through the investigation, officers identified the youth suspect.
On January 23, a youth was safely arrested in Cole Harbour. They were wearing the victim’s jacket and were in possession of the weapon used in the robberies. Both items were seized.
The youth is facing the following charges:
- Robbery (two counts)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Disguise with Intent (two counts)
- Assault
- Uttering Threats
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Failing to Comply with a Youth Sentence (three counts)
The youth was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on January 27.
