Property Tax Rebate for Seniors, Applications Now Open.
Applications are now open for Nova Scotia’s Property Tax Rebate for Seniors program.
The program helps low-income seniors with the cost of municipal property taxes by providing a rebate equal to 50 per cent of the previous year’s residential property taxes, up to a maximum of $800.
To qualify, applicants must have paid their 2025 municipal residential property taxes in full, have their name on the property title, and be eligible to receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) or GIS Allowance through Service Canada.
Seniors who received the rebate last year will automatically receive an application by mail. Applications are also available online, at Access Nova Scotia centres and MLA offices.
The application deadline is December 31. Seniors can also use the same application to apply for the 2026–27 Heating Assistance Rebate Program.
The Province is reminding residents to be cautious of scams. It will never contact people by email, text or phone requesting personal information such as banking details or social insurance numbers.
The Property Tax Rebate for Seniors program has a 2026 budget of $11.97 million, up from $10.4 million in 2025.
