Man Wanted on Warrant Arrested in Woods, Bitten by Police Service Dog.
A Moncton man wanted on a province-wide warrant has been arrested after an extensive RCMP search in South Williamston.
Police responded to a report of an unwelcome man at a home on Hwy. 201 at about 11:25 p.m. on July 3. Before officers arrived, the suspect fled into a nearby wooded area.
During the search, officers heard four possible gunshots coming from the woods. No injuries were reported.
RCMP Police Dog Services, the Emergency Response Team, remotely piloted aircraft system (drone) operators, and Kings District RCMP assisted in the search. Using drone technology, officers located a heat signature in dense brush, where the suspect was found hiding. He was arrested after resisting officers and was bitten by a police service dog.
The man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, medically cleared, and remanded into custody.
Jeffery Allan Stoddart, 33, who was already facing a charge of failing to comply with a release order, now also faces charges of failing to comply with conditions and obstructing a peace officer.
He is scheduled to appear in Digby Provincial Court on July 6. The investigation remains ongoing.
