Three People Charged After Attempted Theft From Two Canadian Tire Stores.
Three people are facing charges after two incidents involving the attempted theft of BB guns from Canadian Tire stores in Halifax and Dartmouth.
On July 3, at approximately 2:55 p.m., police responded to a reported theft at the Canadian Tire on Chain Lake Drive in Halifax. Investigators say two males and a female entered the store and broke into a display case containing BB guns. The two males allegedly stole several BB guns before all three suspects fled on foot before officers arrived.
The following day, at approximately 1:30 p.m., police responded to a weapons complaint at the Canadian Tire on Lamont Terrace in Dartmouth. Staff reported that the same trio attempted to break into a display case containing BB guns but were unsuccessful. As they tried to leave the store, the female suspect allegedly sprayed an employee with a sensory irritant before fleeing.
Officers quickly located and arrested all three suspects without incident. A police service dog later located and seized a canister of sensory irritant believed to have been used during the incident.
Investigators determined the three suspects arrested in Dartmouth were also responsible for the theft at the Halifax Canadian Tire the previous day.
Eighteen-year-old Garik Johnny is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court to face charges of robbery and disguise with intent.
A 16-year-old male is scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Court on charges including robbery, disguise with intent, possession of break-in instruments, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, failure to comply with an undertaking, and two counts of breaching a probation order.
A 14-year-old female is scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Court at a later date. She is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of prohibited or restricted weapon ammunition without a licence.
