40-Year-Old Man From Pictou County Charged in Robbery in St. Andrews.

Antigonish County District RCMP has charged a man in relation to a robbery that occurred yesterday in St. Andrews.

At approximately 11:35 a.m., Antigonish County District RCMP responded to a robbery that had occurred at a convenience store in St. Andrews. RCMP officers learned that a store employee had confronted a man believed to be taking items from the store. The man then fled in a Mazda 3.

A short time later, RCMP officers quickly located the vehicle in the Taylors Road area, which had crashed into a railroad, and observed the man flee. Officers, assisted by a police service dog team, tracked the man on foot and arrested him safely near Hwy 104.

As a precaution, an RCMP officer was dispatched and remained present at the nearby École Acadienne de Pomquet, which was temporally put on a hold and secure.

The 40-year-old man from Pictou County was held in custody and will appear in Antigonish Provincial Court today to face charges of Robbery, Uttering Threats, and Theft.
