Teen Charged in Dragging of Police Officer.
Halifax Regional Police has charged a youth in relation to the dangerous operation of a vehicle in Halifax yesterday.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle in the area of the 500 block of Herring Cove Road. The vehicle was unregistered, and the driver was prohibited from driving. As the officer was placing the driver under arrest, the driver accelerated the vehicle. The officer was caught in the vehicle’s door frame dragging them for a distance.
The suspect fled the area in the vehicle. The officer was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was located in the area, on foot, a short time later and was arrested without further incident.
A 17-year-old youth is scheduled to appear in Halifax youth court today to face charges of:
- Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
- Aggravated assault of a peace officer
- Operation of a conveyance while prohibited
- Flight from peace officer
- Operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance
- Escaping lawful custody
- Resisting arrest
- Breaching the conditions of custody/supervision order
