Arrests Made in Transporting of Elvers Estimated Value of $350,000.

On May 31, fishery officers made 2 arrests, and also seized a truck and 60 kg of elver estimated to be worth between $250,000 and $350,000 at a ground transport facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Fishery officers intercepted the shipment based on gathered intelligence. The elver was going to be driven to Toronto for shipment overseas.

An investigation into this matter for offences under the Fisheries Act is underway.

The elver fishery remains closed this year due to conservation and safety concerns.

Anyone caught fishing for elvers will face enforcement actions under the Fisheries Act and the Maritime Provinces Fishery Regulations.
