Search is on For Missing Hiker in Antigonish County.

Missing hiker: Antigonish County District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 56-year-old Dan Fraser of Frankfort, Ontario.

On July 4, just after 12:00 p.m., Fraser went hiking with a family member in the Browns Mountain area of James River, Antigonish County. While hiking, the family member was injured, and Fraser parted from the family member to find help.

The two men were reported missing when they didn’t return as expected.

On the evening of July 4, the injured family member was located by Antigonish Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR), with the assistance of the Antigonish County District RCMP. He was transported to hospital by EHS with minor injuries.

Fraser has not yet been located and the search, which has now been joined by Pictou Ground Search and Rescue, the RCMP Emergency Response Team, and the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Renewables Air Services, is continuing.

Fraser is described as a man, 5-foot-9, with mid-length brown hair, a goatee and blue eyes. He was wearing a blue shirt, brown pants and a black ballcap.

The RCMP and GSAR are asking the public to stay out of the area to allow trained searchers to continue with their work. Staying out of the area will facilitate the search and allow for the best chance to locate Fraser.

Anyone who may have seen Dan Fraser is asked to contact Antigonish County District RCMP at 902-863-6500.
