No Evidence of Discrimination, Finds Human Right Board Chair.

The chair of an independent human rights board of inquiry has dismissed the complaint of Ross Gray vs. Halifax Bridge Commission and/or Halifax Harbour Bridges and/or Commissionaires Nova Scotia, citing no evidence of discrimination.

Mr. Gray alleged he was discriminated against based on his race and/or colour during an interaction with bridge commission employees in July 2021 while walking across the Macdonald Bridge with his bicycle. A public hearing was held in April.

In his decision issued Wednesday, July 24, board Chair Benjamin Perryman acknowledged bridge staff mistakenly stopped Mr. Gray, but race or colour was not a factor in their decision to stop him. He noted the impacts of this incident on Mr. Gray and steps taken by Halifax Harbour Bridges to prevent similar mistakes from occurring.
