CCTV Cameras to be Placed in Downtown Core Area of New Glasgow.

New Glasgow Regional Police launches NG Safe Watch, a public safety program used to prevent crime.

The New Glasgow Regional Police in partnership with the Town of New Glasgow and local businesses and organizations is introducing N.G Safe Watch. This public safety video closed circuit television CCTV program is aimed at enhancing public safety preventing crime.

The program includes video closed circuit television CCTV video cameras to be placed in several areas of the downtown core area.

“This NG Safe Watch crime prevention project allows businesses and community to be involved in crime prevention,” said Chief Stephen Chisholm of the New Glasgow Regional Police. “Installing wireless video solutions will enhance public safety, disrupt and deter criminal activity and enhance police investigations.”

The initial start of the program will have over a dozen cameras throughout the downtown core, but the program’s goal is to expand the program to include more areas.

The cameras are not actively monitored but video footage but are used in solving and deterring criminal activity. The CCTV program cameras will also be able to observe behavior and retrieve data when required.

The pilot project has received favorable reviews and implementation is expected to deter crime and create safe spaces.
