UPDATE: New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime/Criminal Investigations Unit, Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office, New Glasgow Fire Department, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office continues to investigate the fatal residential fire on Pleasant Street New Glasgow that resulted in two fatalities.

Preliminary investigation has led police to believe that the fire is not criminal in nature at this time, where the evidence and information gathered at the scene continues to indicate the fire is not suspicious.

The victims were a 48-year-old-man, a 23-year-old woman, both from Pictou County.

Our thoughts are with both victims’ families and friends during this difficult time.

New Glasgow Regional Police is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred on Pleasant Street, New Glasgow.

On Saturday December 23, at approximately 1:08 p.m., New Glasgow Regional Police, New Glasgow Fire Department, Stellarton Fire Department, Linacy Fire Department, Trenton Fire Department, Pictou County REHAB Unit and Emergency Health Services responded to a report of a house fire on Pleasant Street New Glasgow. Upon arrival of emergency services, the residence was full of smoke and fire. Fire crews continued to extinguish the fire for several hours. Two fatalities were located that were inside the residence.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Criminal Investigations Unit, with assistance from the Office of the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal, the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Forensic Identification Section of the RCMP.

New Glasgow Regional Police continue to be on scene as investigators continue to gather information and evidence as to the cause of the fire.

No further information will be released on the fatalities until family members have been notified.
