Man Charged With Four Counts of Arson.
Between January 19 and 28, Meteghan RCMP Detachment responded to four reports of attempted arson at a property on Patrice Rd. RCMP officers learned that a camp was broken into and attempts to start a fire were made.
On January 28, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Meteghan RCMP Detachment, assisted by the Digby RCMP Detachment, responded to a disturbance on Patrice Rd. RCMP officers learned that a man had attempted to burn a structure but was caught in the act by witnesses. The man, who initially attempted to flee in a Ford Ranger but crashed the vehicle, fled the scene on foot. A detailed description of the suspect was provided to investigators.
On the morning of January 29, Meteghan RCMP Detachment received a report of a suspicious man in the area of Second Division Rd. RCMP officers learned that a man, who’s description matched that of the suspect’s from the evening prior, was asking for a ride.
Shortly after, RCMP officers patrolling the area located the man and safely arrested him.
Craig Mitchell Burns, 30, from Weymouth has been charged with:
- Arson, Damage to Property (4 Counts);
- Mischief (2 counts);
- Failure to Comply with a Release Order (2 Counts);
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance;
- Possession of Substance;
- Operating an Unregistered Vehicle;
- Failing to Display Number Plates for the Current Registration Year;
- Driving Motor Vehicle without motor vehicle liability policy;
- Operating Motor Vehicle without valid driver’s license.
Burns has been remanded into custody and will return in Digby Provincial Court on February 20, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
