Fraud and Other Charges After Almost $200,000 Worth of Property Found in Storage Locker.

Police have charged one person in relation to multiple fraudulent credit card purchases throughout the region this month.

Between February 15 and February 20, the suspect made several purchases of construction materials from suppliers in the Halifax region. On February 21, officers arrested the man in relation to the incident when he attended one of the locations to pick up the materials. The man was held to appear in court to face the charges.

On February 22, investigators with the Financial Crime Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division attended a self-storage facility in Halifax where they believed fraudulently purchased materials were being stored and found three men loading the materials into a transport truck. Officers arrested two of the men without incident. The third man, who was previously arrested on February 21, was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Investigators conducted a search of the storage locker and seized property valued at almost $200,000.

Two of the men were released without charges. The third man, Kwaku George Ankama, 28, was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on February 23 to face charges from both incidents of:

  • Identity fraud to avoid arrest (x3)
  • Identity theft
  • Fraud over $5,000 (x8)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (x9)
  • Resist arrest
