Updated Healthcare Data Available on the Action For Health Website.

Nova Scotians can now see updated healthcare data on the Action for Health website.

The latest data, from the fourth quarter of 2023-24 (January 1 to March 31), shows ongoing positive trends in several areas, including nurse and nurse practitioner recruitment and long-term care wait list reductions across the system.

“We are committed to fixing healthcare, and we are making progress,” said Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson. “We know there is more work to be done, but we are seeing positive momentum in key areas, and we will continue to be transparent with the public as the Action for Health plan is implemented.”

The government is making progress on each of the six broad solutions to improve healthcare in Nova Scotia laid out in the Action for Health strategy. All actions outlined in the strategic plan are now underway and their status has been updated.

The Action for Health website is updated quarterly: https://novascotia.ca/actionforhealth/

Highlights from last quarter include:

  • the launch of a new screening program that will help save lives by preventing lung cancer and finding it earlier
  • thousands of patients at several clinics across the province having access to their medical records through the YourHealthNS app in a new pilot project
  • the announcement of a construction tender for the expansion of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital emergency department, which will provide people in Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties better access to emergency healthcare
  • announcing the Province and Shannex will bring much-needed beds into the healthcare system faster by partnering to expand and enhance the transitional care centre in West Bedford, adding a 110-room addition, for a total of 178 rooms
  • work starting on the QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project, which will provide generations of Nova Scotians better access to healthcare
  • more than 30 organizations received funding to support community healthcare recruitment and retention initiatives across the province.
