Community Facilities and Programs in Pictou County to Receive Grants.
Communities in Pictou County will benefit from a new recreational park, upgrades to facilities, program expansions and trail enhancements with provincial grants announced today, July 9.
“Developing and updating infrastructure boosts economic productivity, ensures equitable access to services and addresses the changing needs of society,” said Pat Dunn, MLA for Pictou Centre, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “This is not only an investment, but a commitment to our province’s growth and prosperity.”
The Town of Trenton received funding to enhance a multi-sport court, construct a new concrete all-wheels park and install an accessible washroom and canteen at the Trenton ball field.
The Town of New Glasgow received funding for its trail lighting project, which will see LED lights installed along the Pioneer Trail and the Johnny Miles Memorial Trail to improve accessibility, safety and usability.
The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library received funding to expand the Virtual Care @ Your Library program, which provides the technology and space for patients to have virtual consultations with doctors, and a navigator who helps clients use the system and works to raise awareness. The expansion means people in more areas can access the program.
The North End Recreation Centre in New Glasgow, a space for people of all ages and abilities to stay active year-round, received funding to repair the outdoor rink, replace a fence and purchase new tennis nets, basketball rims and benches.
These community grants are part of a series of announcements taking place across the province.
Quotes:
“The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library is pleased to be a partner with the Province of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Health and the Aberdeen Health Foundation in providing help to those in need of primary care. Virtual care is a terrific option for many people, but the technology can be a huge barrier.
