Atlantic Environmental Systems’ Direct Seller Permit Has Been Cancelled.
The Province has cancelled the Direct Seller Permit issued to Atlantic Environmental Systems (AES) Inc., a water treatment company.
The decision was made after the Province received a series of consumer complaints about AES and the Registrar under the Direct Sellers’ Regulation Act held a hearing with the company.
The Registrar’s decision found that AES has engaged in a pattern of conduct that shows the company is unfit to hold a direct seller permit and that it would not be in the public interest to allow AES to continue holding a permit in Nova Scotia.
The Registrar also found that AES has demonstrated its untrustworthiness to carry on the business of direct selling.
Service Nova Scotia encourages all Nova Scotians to be aware of their rights when it comes to direct sales.
By law, businesses and self-employed people must have a Direct Seller Permit to sell products or services door to door, host home parties or sell through multi-level distributors.

Quick Facts:
- direct sellers must identify themselves using the name on their identification card
- consumers have the right to ask a salesperson to leave their home at any time
- consumers have the right to a 10-day “cooling-off period,” wherein they can cancel a sale for any reason
- consumers who wish to cancel a direct sales contract must do so in writing
