Flight From Police Results in Serious Injuries After Crash.

Queens District RCMP is investigating a serious single-vehicle crash following a flight from police.

On July 27, Queens District RCMP was conducting traffic enforcement at a checkpoint on #Milton Rd. near the town of Liverpool. At approximately 1:00 a.m., RCMP officers observed a Volkswagen Golf approach the checkpoint and then make an abrupt U-turn to head north on Highway 8.

An RCMP officer quickly left the checkpoint in an attempt to complete a traffic stop.

A short time later, the vehicle was located after it had left the roadway and come to rest on its roof.

The driver, a 24-year-old Sable River man, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital by EHS.

The passenger, a 25-year-old woman from East Green Harbour, was transported to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene. Hwy. 8 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
