DFO Fines Harvester For Undersized Mesh on Fishing Net.

On September 19 in the waters off Port Mouton, Nova Scotia, fishery officers apprehended a vessel and seized gill nets with undersized mesh, which were being used to fish herring.

The minimum net mesh size allows smaller fish that are still growing to escape from trawl nets, grow to full maturity and reproduce before harvest or natural mortality.
