A man has been charged with robbery after attempting to steal a purse.
On May 20, 2025, at approximately 3:30 pm, New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a report of a robbery at a local business on Maclean Street, New Glasgow.
The suspect entered the business and attempted to leave with the victim’s purse. The victim observed the suspect and confronted him, at which point he pushed the victim before dropping the purse and fleeing the scene on foot.
New Glasgow Regional Police immediately arrived in the area. Upon investigation the suspect was identified and arrested.
The suspect, 43-year-old Matthew MacLean from Pictou County, has been charged with Robbery and 2 counts of Failing to Comply with Probation.
He was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Pictou on Monday May 26, 2025.
