This initiative, supported by the Retail Council of Canada, involves retailers and police working together to combat retail crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Halifax Regional Police focused efforts on enforcement, information\/intelligence gathering, and arresting and charging chronic offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Extra patrols at retail locations and parking lots were conducted by patrol officers, community response officers, and the mounted unit while citizens were out doing holiday shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some notable investigations include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2024-172088<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 18, 2024, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Castle Hill Drive in Clayton Park. Officers seized over 300 boxes and bags containing stolen merchandise, including clothing, toys, electronics and other general household items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 60-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2024-171032<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 19th, 2024, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Adams Avenue in Halifax. Officers seized numerous stolen items including a heat pump, a large volume of clothing and several thousand dollars\u2019 worth of stolen alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ricky Cameron, 56, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and possession of property for the purpose of trafficking under $5000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Cameron appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on December 20th, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24-158872<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 17th, 2024, a search warrant was executed on a storage unit in Halifax where a significant amount of stolen property was recovered. The recovered items include numerous bikes and electric bikes, laptops, electronics, a variety of tools, a generator, an air compressor, and a pressure washer. The investigation remains ongoing, and potential charges have not yet been laid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2024-172295<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 18th, 2024, police were advised of a theft that had just occurred at a retail store on Spring Garden Road. Minutes later, an officer located a male carrying the stolen items down Brunswick Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 27-year-old man will appear at Halifax Provincial Court on January 22, 2025, to face charges of theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quote<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRetail theft is always a concern, but particularly during the holidays. Its effects on business, big and small, are significant. Each offender we are able charge helps send a message that retail theft will not be tolerated in HRM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am proud of the cross-departmental effort that went into uncovering these incidents.
