{"id":10399,"date":"2025-01-23T19:52:09","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T22:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=10399"},"modified":"2025-01-23T19:52:10","modified_gmt":"2025-01-23T22:52:10","slug":"new-investments-in-highways-bridges-and-ferries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2025\/01\/23\/new-investments-in-highways-bridges-and-ferries\/","title":{"rendered":"New Investments in Highways, Bridges and Ferries."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The government is once again making significant investments in the province\u2019s highways, bridges and ferries to make them safer and more efficient for Nova Scotians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fred Tilley, Minister of Public Works, released the 2025-26 Five-Year Highway Improvement Plan today, January 21. Through the plan, the Province will invest more than $500 million in 2025-26 in major highway and road projects, repaving, bridge replacements, capital maintenance and infrastructure work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNova Scotians want to move around their communities and province safely,\u201d said Minister Tilley. \u201cThis work will ensure people and our local products can move around safely and efficiently. These projects connect us with our families and our products with the rest of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work will begin on two new major projects: the Port Hastings intersection in Inverness County and passing lanes between exits 18 and 19 (Lake Echo\/Mineville and Porters Lake) on Highway 107 in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Work will continue on major projects, including the:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Seal Island Bridge rehabilitation (Victoria County)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highway 103 Argyle interchange (Yarmouth County)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highway 103 twinning from Hubbards to East River (Lunenburg County)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highway 104 twinning from Taylors Road to Paqtnkek (Antigonish County)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highway 107 twinning from Burnside to Lake Loon (HRM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highway 102 Aerotech Connector (HRM).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Work on infrastructure upgrades for the Tancook Ferry in Lunenburg County will also continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan also includes access improvements for 100-series highways that are not being twinned, including improving intersections and adding passing lanes, turning lanes and roundabouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Nova Scotia Road Builders Association is very supportive of the Five-Year Highway Improvement Plan.
