The New Glasgow Regional Police has laid charges against a man in connection with a hate-motivated crime that occurred earlier this year in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On July 5, 2025, New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a report of a truck parked in the lot of a local grocery store on Westville Road, displaying two large Anti-Semitic signs on its tailgate. The signs included derogatory language and an offensive caricature targeting individuals based on religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result of the investigation, Andrew Fraser, 59, of Pictou Landing, has been arrested and charged with:
Wilful Promotion of Hatred \u2013 Section 319(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This section of the Criminal Code makes it an offence to publicly communicate statements, other than in private conversation, that willfully promote hatred against an identifiable group.
Identifiable groups include those distinguished by race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics.
Hate crimes do not just target individuals \u2014 they impact entire communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These crimes are taken seriously due to their ability to spread fear, division, and potential violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Fraser has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Pictou today, October 7, and again at a later date.
The New Glasgow Regional Police remains committed to thoroughly investigating hate-motivated crimes. Hate has no place in our community. We work to ensure that all members of our region feel safe, respected, and protected under the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
