Shelburne District RCMP continues to investigate a dog attack in Welshtown that has resulted in the death of a youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On January 3, at approximately 5:12 p.m., RCMP officers, EHS, and fire services responded to a report of a dog attack that had occurred in the 100 block of Upper Sandy Cove Rd. Officers learned that three large-breed dogs \u2013 two Cane Corsos and a Rottweiler \u2013 had mauled a youth who was riding a bicycle past a property. The youth later died in hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is an extremely distressing and tragic incident for everyone involved,\u201d says S\/Sgt. Mark Macpherson, Detachment Commander, Shelburne District RCMP. \u201cOur thoughts are with the youth\u2019s loved ones as they process their heartbreaking loss.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the days since the attack, investigators have been actively gathering and analyzing video footage, conducting door-to-door canvassing in the immediate and surrounding areas, and interviewing a number of people about the dogs\u2019 day-to-day movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur team is working through several investigative steps to fully understand what happened and to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack,\u201d says S\/Sgt. Macpherson. \u201cCommunity members have been very supportive of our work, and the dog owners have been cooperative throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ongoing investigation is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
