{"id":11965,"date":"2026-01-22T10:43:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T13:43:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=11965"},"modified":"2026-01-22T10:43:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T13:43:07","slug":"two-men-facing-serious-charges-after-flight-from-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2026\/01\/22\/two-men-facing-serious-charges-after-flight-from-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Men Facing Serious Charges After Flight From Police."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Antigonish County District RCMP has charged two men who fled from police in Pomquet Forks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 20, at approximately 11:20 a.m., an RCMP officer attempted to complete a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 with an unattached Alberta licence plate and heavy front-end damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The driver of the F-150 immediately took off down a dead-end road and crossed a river, getting the truck stuck on the opposite side of the waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The officer recognized the truck\u2019s passenger as an individual wanted for possession of a firearm, assault with weapon, and other offences. The driver, who was not known to the officer, was believed to be in possession of a handgun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the interest of public safety, an Alert Ready emergency alert was issued to Antigonish County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pictou County District RCMP, Guysborough County District RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Services, the RCMP Emergency Response Team, and a drone were deployed to assist in locating the men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At approximately 12:50 p.m., one man was taken into custody. The other man was arrested at about 1:50 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No firearms were located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The driver, 48-year-old George William Bowles from Heatherton, is facing the following charges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flight from Police<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dangerous Operation of Conveyance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operation of Conveyance While Prohibited<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obstruction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fail to Comply with Probation Order<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The passenger, 33-year-old Jerry Lee Ledrew from Paq\u2019tnkek First Nation, has been charged with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assault with a Weapon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pointing a Firearm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using an Imitation Weapon in the Commission of an Offence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Possession of Weapon Contrary to Order<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Bowles and Ledrew appeared in Antigonish Provincial Court on January 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: RCMP Release <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Antigonish County District RCMP has charged two men who fled from police in Pomquet Forks.
