{"id":5896,"date":"2023-12-18T15:54:29","date_gmt":"2023-12-18T18:54:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=5896"},"modified":"2023-12-18T15:54:30","modified_gmt":"2023-12-18T18:54:30","slug":"man-now-facing-a-total-of-72-charges-related-to-human-trafficking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2023\/12\/18\/man-now-facing-a-total-of-72-charges-related-to-human-trafficking\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Now Facing a Total of 72 Charges Related to Human Trafficking."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Police have charged Paul Theriault Jr. with an additional eight offences as the multi-agency investigation by the Nova Scotia Provincial Human Trafficking Unit, the Cape Breton Regional Police Service and the Nova Scotia RCMP continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 6, investigators, including members of the Provincial Human Trafficking Unit, the Cape Breton Regional Police Service and the RCMP, safely arrested a man at a home in Dominion. The arrest was part of an investigation that began in 2021, when several victims reported that a man was targeting females in the Cape Breton area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the course of the investigation, officers uncovered evidence that females were being video recorded without their consent and that the videos were being posted and sold online.<br>Seventeen survivors had come forward, reporting incidents that occurred between 2008 and 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the 64 offences for which Paul Theriault Jr., 45, of Dominion was charged on December 7, he now faces an additional eight charges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Posses a prohibited weapon knowing it was prohibited<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human Trafficking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Material Benefit from Human Trafficking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlawful Confinement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexual Assault<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administer a Noxious Thing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obtain sexual services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Procuring a person to provide sexual services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The additional charges were laid as a result of a survivor coming forward to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a survivor, know someone who may be a survivor, or have information related to the incidents, please contact your local police or RCMP detachment.
