{"id":7337,"date":"2024-06-05T12:57:30","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T15:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=7337"},"modified":"2024-06-05T13:39:48","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T16:39:48","slug":"eviction-prevention-support-available-in-the-form-of-diversion-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2024\/06\/05\/eviction-prevention-support-available-in-the-form-of-diversion-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Eviction Prevention Support Available in The Form of Diversion Funding."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>More support is on the way for Nova Scotians at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness, with the Province providing additional funding to help people with overdue power bills, rental arrears and other barriers to housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This support, known as diversion funding, will be provided to 14 community-based organizations \u2013 seven in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and seven in rural communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNova Scotians are facing real challenges right now when it comes to affordability, and for some it can mean the difference between having a home or being homeless,\u201d said Brendan Maguire, Minister of Community Services. \u201cThis additional funding is part of the overall supports offered by our service providers and gives them another way to help the people they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The providers will receive a total of $500,000 to be used for direct, one-time financial support with costs that create barriers to finding or maintaining housing. In addition to the one-time funding, people will be connected to other available supports and services to help them long term, such as housing support workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHousing plays a crucial role in the well-being of individuals and communities, so we are delighted to have received a share of the diversion funds from the Department of Community Services.
