{"id":8156,"date":"2024-08-01T15:21:28","date_gmt":"2024-08-01T18:21:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=8156"},"modified":"2024-08-01T15:29:36","modified_gmt":"2024-08-01T18:29:36","slug":"first-acadian-heritage-month-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2024\/08\/01\/first-acadian-heritage-month-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"NS First Acadian Heritage Month Begins."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today, August 1, marks the start of Nova Scotia\u2019s first Acadian Heritage Month, honouring more than four centuries of Acadian history, culture, language and traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAcadians have played a fundamental role in shaping our province and there\u2019s no better time than August, a time of great significance to Acadians, to celebrate this proud culture,\u201d said Premier Tim Houston. \u201cThe inaugural Acadian Heritage Month is an opportunity for all of us to discover more about the vitality and enduring heritage of the Acadian people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nova Scotians and visitors travelling to Acadian communities will be treated to a variety of activities \u2013 including concerts, culinary experiences and gatherings \u2013 throughout the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A highlight of this year\u2019s festivities is the Congr\u00e8s mondial acadien 2024, the largest Acadian gathering in the world. The event, held in a different location every five years, will bring thousands of people to southwestern Nova Scotia August 10-18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAugust will be a month to celebrate Acadian heritage and share the incredible stories of our people,\u201d said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie. \u201cThe Congr\u00e8s mondial acadien 2024 will also be an opportunity to showcase southwest Nova Scotia and a great time for visitors to experience the spirit of l\u2019Acadie in our province and discover its vibrant history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Province provided $25,000 each to 16 Nova Scotia communities to support activities for the first Acadian Heritage Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is wonderful to see the work that began with the first Acadian national congress in 1881 continue to expand and grow, recognizing the significance of the Acadian community in Nova Scotia.
