{"id":8207,"date":"2024-08-06T13:06:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T16:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=8207"},"modified":"2024-08-06T13:06:07","modified_gmt":"2024-08-06T16:06:07","slug":"development-approved-for-new-special-planning-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2024\/08\/06\/development-approved-for-new-special-planning-areas\/","title":{"rendered":"Development Approved for New Special Planning Areas."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister John Lohr has designated four new special planning areas in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) to support development of more than 23,000 residential units and 380 long-term care rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is a tremendous need for housing in Halifax and surrounding areas,\u201d said Minister Lohr. \u201cWe\u2019re a significant way through the planning and development process with many of our initial special planning areas, and we\u2019re seeing the results. Designation is removing red tape and speeding up development. The process is working, and these new designations will bring more housing, including long-term care rooms, to Nova Scotians, faster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new special planning areas are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Westphal urban reserve lands, Dartmouth \u2013 up to 18,000 units, plus 96 long-term care rooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1226 Cole Harbour Rd., Cole Harbour \u2013 more than 511 units, plus 144 long-term care rooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1109 Fall River Rd., Fall River (Opportunity Site B) \u2013 316 units, plus 144 long-term care rooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paper Mill Lake, Bedford \u2013 up to 4,714 units, including 214 units in Phase 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Minister has also approved a recommendation by the Executive Panel on Housing in the Halifax Regional Municipality to issue a development agreement to Perry Lake Developments Inc. for 120 units off Ingram Drive in Fall River (Opportunity Site C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amendments to the development agreement for the Southdale-Mount Hope special planning area were also approved to allow the project to progress as planned, with no impact from changes to the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maps of the special planning areas are available at:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/novascotia.ca\/housing-panel\/\">https:\/\/novascotia.ca\/housing-panel\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe designation of the sites where modern, new long-term care homes will be built as special planning areas supports our government\u2019s multi-year plan to expand and increase long-term care in Nova Scotia.
