{"id":8569,"date":"2024-08-29T17:12:52","date_gmt":"2024-08-29T20:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=8569"},"modified":"2024-08-29T17:13:07","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T20:13:07","slug":"funding-for-community-infrastructure-in-cumberland-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2024\/08\/29\/funding-for-community-infrastructure-in-cumberland-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding for Community Infrastructure in Cumberland County."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Communities in Cumberland County will benefit from improvements to facilities with provincial grants announced today, August 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCollaborating with community organizations is the most impactful way to advance initiatives and create solutions that benefit communities,\u201d said Tory Rushton, Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables and MLA for Cumberland South, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. \u201cThese grants will help ensure that the places dedicated to enhancing the spiritual, emotional, social and physical well-being of residents will thrive for many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The volunteer-run Northumberland Community Curling Club in Pugwash received funding for accessibility improvements to the washroom, ramp and signs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The North Cumberland Historical Society, which preserves the history and genealogy of the north Cumberland County area, received funding to reconstruct the entrance, improve the heating system and renovate the ground floor of the building in Pugwash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other organizations in Cumberland County are also receiving provincial grants for upgrades:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Amherst Wesleyan Church \u2013 replace the roof<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Springhill Junction Society Community Hall \u2013 repair doors and windows, and install a generator<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Northport Community Organization \u2013 install three heat pumps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Six Rivers Hope Centre Ministries \u2013 install a generator<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Westchester Firefighters Auxiliary \u2013 purchase a commercial dishwasher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These community grants are part of a series of announcements taking place across the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Westchester Firefighters Auxiliary is very excited to receive this grant of $5,000 for an industrial dishwasher. This addition to our kitchen will improve our catering and rental options. It will also decrease our use of disposable items and make us more environmentally friendly. As our hall is used as a comfort centre during an emergency event, meal prep and cleanup will be much improved with the dishwasher.
