{"id":8711,"date":"2024-09-11T08:00:26","date_gmt":"2024-09-11T11:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=8711"},"modified":"2024-09-11T08:00:27","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T11:00:27","slug":"changes-to-the-french-language-services-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2024\/09\/11\/changes-to-the-french-language-services-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes to The French-Language Services Act."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The government is amending legislation to strengthen its commitment to serve Nova Scotia\u2019s growing Acadian and francophone community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acadian Affairs and Francophonie Minister Colton LeBlanc introduced changes to the French-language Services Act today, September 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are listening to our Acadian and francophone partners on how best to support and grow these communities and deliver public services in French,\u201d said Minister LeBlanc. \u201cWe will continue working with our partners to better align programs and services to meet the evolving priorities of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposed amendments will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>recognize French-speaking Nova Scotians as contributing to the province\u2019s diversity and vibrancy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>highlight the important role of the French language in the development of the Acadian and francophone community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>require a review of the act every 10 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>change the definition of the minister responsible for the act to minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie; it is currently minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>add specific language around the Minister\u2019s role in advising the government on the use of the French language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>add the Advisory Committee to the Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie to the act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Work to update the French-language services regulations will continue in consultation with Acadian and francophone partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe could not receive better news than this, namely the update to the French-language Services Act, to add to the many legacies of the Congr\u00e8s mondial acadien.
