{"id":8730,"date":"2024-09-12T12:39:36","date_gmt":"2024-09-12T15:39:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=8730"},"modified":"2024-09-12T12:43:11","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T15:43:11","slug":"more-veterans-eligible-for-specialty-license-plates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2024\/09\/12\/more-veterans-eligible-for-specialty-license-plates\/","title":{"rendered":"More Veterans Eligible For Specialty License Plates."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nova Scotians who have played a role in making Canada and the world a safer place to live will be able to obtain a veteran\u2019s specialty licence plate in honour of their contributions sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Province is removing the minimum length-of-service requirement to apply for the plate, which is available to past and current members of the armed forces, RCMP and others. Previously, members must have served at least three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"364\" src=\"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Veterans-plate.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Veterans-plate.png 650w, https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Veterans-plate-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur specialty licence plate program recognizes our veterans for the sacrifices and achievements made by those who have served \u2013 and continue to serve \u2013 during times of war and peace,\u201d said Public Works Minister Kim Masland. \u201cWe are taking steps to broaden the eligibility to make sure we are honouring those Nova Scotians who make the selfless act to protect our province and country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Province worked with the Nova Scotia\/Nunavut Command of the Royal Canadian Legion on eligibility changes, including removing the requirement for members of wartime allies\u2019 armed forces to have served in a theatre of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the updated definition, a veteran is considered to be any person who is serving, or who has honourably served, in the Canadian Armed Forces, the armed forces of another Commonwealth country or its wartime allies, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime, or as a peace officer on a special duty operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur veterans have done, and continue to do, so much for us.
