{"id":8803,"date":"2024-09-18T13:19:25","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T16:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/?p=8803"},"modified":"2024-09-18T13:19:34","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T16:19:34","slug":"call-for-nominations-for-the-nova-scotia-human-rights-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpress.ca\/index.php\/2024\/09\/18\/call-for-nominations-for-the-nova-scotia-human-rights-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Call For Nominations For The Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>People are encouraged to submit nominations for this year\u2019s Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commission presents awards annually to Nova Scotians whose work advances human rights in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRecognizing human rights champions shines a light on the important work of those prioritizing justice, fairness, dignity and inclusion,\u201d said Joseph Fraser, Director and CEO of the commission. \u201cWe\u2019re asking Nova Scotians to recognize those among us who intervene, step up, speak out and push for recognition of the rights of all people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People can nominate individual Nova Scotians and groups who have demonstrated excellence in this area until November 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Award categories are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Youth (up to age 20) \u2013 for work that promotes equity and inclusion, advances understanding of human rights and its importance in empowering youth to advocate for themselves, their peers and their communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individual (age 21 and older) \u2013 someone who demonstrates leadership and whose work has contributed to change in their community by advancing equity, inclusion, and the value in promoting and protecting human rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Group\/Organization \u2013 its collective action serves to protect dignity, advance equity, promote inclusion, and raise awareness of human rights in Nova Scotia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dr. Burnley Allan (Rocky) Jones Award \u2013 presented to an individual of African descent whose work reflects and builds upon his legacy of championing racial equality, advancing justice and fostering socio-economic empowerment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wel\u2019lukwen Award \u2013 presented to an L\u2019nu individual (youth or adult), group or organization whose work advances the rights of Mi\u2019kmaq\/Indigenous people while creating a just, equitable and inclusive society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2024 Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards will be presented in Halifax on Tuesday, December 10, to mark the United Nations International Human Rights Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More information about the awards and the nomination form are available at:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/humanrights.novascotia.ca\/awards\">https:\/\/humanrights.novascotia.ca\/awards<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations for the Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards are open year-round, with a public call issued in early autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Source : Provincial Release <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People are encouraged to submit nominations for this year\u2019s Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards.
