LaHave Cable Ferry Will Be Out For Refit.
The LaHave cable ferry in Lunenburg County will be taken out of service on Tuesday, October 1, for its five-year refit required by Transport Canda.
The ferry, named the Brady E. Himmelman, will be towed to Meteghan for the work, which is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete. The work is necessary to renew the vessel’s safety inspection certificate.
“This is an unavoidable disruption, and we regret the inconvenience this is going to cause for people in the area,” said Public Works Minister Kim Masland. “We have done our best to schedule this work for when use is lower, and the weather conditions are still good for driving. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience.”
Because of relatively shallow water, a cable ferry is the only suitable option for the LaHave River crossing, and a replacement is not available.
