Two People Arrested After Police Find Prohibited Item.

On August 16, 2025 at 11:07 a.m., New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a call from staff at a local Inn that they had located a firearm during a room cleaning.

New Glasgow Regional Police immediately attended and seized a loaded 9mm handgun and ammunition from the room.

At 12:25 p.m., two occupants of the room returned to the Inn and were arrested on site without incident.

Preliminary investigation determined that the firearm was stolen from a break and enter that occurred in Great Village, Nova Scotia in 2019.

Collan Olson 31 years of age from Hilden, Nova Scotia was charged with;

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – CC s.91(1)
  • Possession of restricted firearm without authorization – CC s. 91(2)
  • Possession of prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition – CC s. 95(1)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device -CC s.91(2)
  • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm – CC s.86(2)

Kyla Borden 25 years of age from Truro, Nova Scotia was charged with;

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – CC s.91(1)
  • Possession of restricted firearm without authorization – CC s. 91(2)
  • Possession of prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition – CC s. 95(1)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device – CC s.91(2)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon – CC s.91(2)
  • Unauthorized possession of ammunition – CC s. 91(2)
  • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm – CC s.86(2)

Both individuals were remanded into custody and will be appearing in Pictou Provincial Court on Monday August 18th 2025. New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.

New Glasgow Regional Police acknowledges the quick and correct actions of the Inn staff in immediately calling police. Their actions prevented a serious community public safety risk.
