Equipment Stolen From Fire Trucks While on Scene of Fire.
Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars of tools and equipment taken from two separate Cape Breton Regional Fire Services trucks while they were on scene of a fire in New Waterford.
While fighting a fire on 10th Street at approximately 3:30 AM July 26th, members of the New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department were approached by a resident who saw someone take and run away with a piece of equipment from one of their trucks; firefighters checked and were able to confirm that a two-handed circular saw, valued at $3,000, was missing. The Sydney Fire Department, who was assisting at the scene of the fire, later discovered several more pieces of equipment were also missing from one of their trucks, including: another circular saw, angle grinder, impact driver, drill, assorted bits and drivers, and a flashlight and batteries.
Police have canvassed the neighbourhood to speak with residents and collect video surveillance; anyone with information about the theft, or who may have seen anything in the area that morning, are asked to contact police at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
