26 Year Old Charged With DUI After Stopped Traveling 149 km/h.
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment arrested a 26-year-old Mahone Bay man for impaired driving after stopping his vehicle for excessive speed on Hwy. 103 near Upper Tantallon.
At about 9:30 a.m. on June 27, an officer conducting proactive patrols observed a Subaru Crosstrek travelling well above the 110 km/h speed limit. Radar confirmed the vehicle was travelling at 149 km/h.
During the traffic stop, the officer observed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. At the Tantallon RCMP detachment, he provided breath samples of 110 mg% and 100 mg%.
The man will face impaired driving charges and was released pending a future court appearance. He was also ticketed under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act for driving with an expired licence and having open alcohol in the vehicle.
RCMP reminds motorists that impaired driving remains a leading cause of deaths on Nova Scotia roads. Suspected impaired drivers should be reported by calling 911.
